08 PLANNING WEBSITE

I planned on having the album 'blur' as the first thing on my page, however I was unsure as to how to layout the page, as shown below in the past versions of my site.

Initially, for my website I was going to use the tour page as my hyperlink, but I realised there wouldnt have been enough content to make it a fully fleshed page, so instead I used the music hyperlink to include my audiovisual piece, have a collection of singles and collaberations listed.

The layout stayed rather similar the whole way through, but I believe the page was too empty when showing just the blur album cover on the first part of the page.

07 PLANNING PRODUCTION

06 AUDIENCE WEBSITE

05 AUDIENCE PRODUCTION

When trying to figure out how to create the production so that it interests the target audience, I found out that the movie 'Waves' by A24 uses multiple Frank Ocean songs in its soundtrack, as well as theming large parts of the story around topics that Frank Ocean covers in his music. This lead me to decide to use this movie as a heavy influence for the cinematic nature of my music video, as opposed to a more performative piece. I found this more effective, particularly as the movie 'Waves' and other A24 productions typically targets a younger audience. This is why I believe that they chose to use as many Frank Ocean songs as they did, due to his songs generally focusing on teenage love, which is the core theme of the movie. This aligns with the 16-25 target audience in the brief, and heavily emphasises the narrative nature of the song. I believe that a performative piece would minimise the priority of analysing the lyrics, and would primarily focus around how the song sounds on a surface level. A cinematic video allows the audience to focus on the lyrics and their relevance to the song more, which is why I decided to take this route with a Frank Ocean song, due to his music being critically acclaimed for the power and relatability of the lyrics.

04 C AND C WEBSITE

In general, most of the popular RnB artists that match the style of the song i am using have very sparse, simplistic websites, and so instead of completely using these simplistic codes and conventions, I will use the websites to help with portraying the music (singles & albums) while also filling out the pages with more concentrated content. The reason I am deconstructing this convention is because these artists may have such sparse pages due to them being very successful, implying that they may not need to have such a dense website, simply due to their music being the priority

These sites typically use one flat colour as the background, with only one image filling the screen at a time.

Each page starts with the most recent news from the artist.

As shown in the lowest image, which is on Frank Oceans website (the creator of the song I am using for the music video) there is a playlist included at the bottom of thenwebsite. I find this very interesting and I plan on including a similar feature.

03 C AND C PRODUCTION

This is my powerpoint on the codes and conventions for my production

02 STATEMENT OF INTENT

Product 1 Music Video

My brief is to produce a music video for a fictional band/artist that is signed to Beggars Group, as well as two pages of a working website for the artist. My music video (White Ferrari – Frank Ocean) will target a mainly male audience within the 16-25 age range, and I intend to create a connection of relatability between the artist and the audience. My music video will mainly portray a theme of isolation/sadness after a breakup, and I hope to position the audience to see the artist as a relatable figure. The video will be largely comprised of candid shots, with a cinematic style. The intention of my video is to use the cinematic style to position the audience to see the artist as someone who appreciates urban art forms. I will use a range of camera shots/angles to make the video appear more personal and intimate to the character. The representations of my artist and audience in the video will be counter typical and my song, White Ferrari, fits in the RnB/Neo Soul genre. I will create a narrative showing my characters emotions before and after the breakup, creating a relatable representation of my artist similar too music videos in my genre. I am taking inspiration from videos such as Best Part by Daniel Caesar as well as movies such as Waves who are targeting the same audience as me. The music video will not be showing the artist as primarly performative, as I want to prioritise the cinematic candid shots.

Product 2 Website

After researching websites of Male RnB artists, I noticed codes and conventions of their websites. To properly present my artist's image to the public, I'll utilise a lot of studio shots of them and shots while they're performing. There will also be promotions on the website for his next tour, albums, single, and music video. I will include a written interview on the page since the website is meant to promote the artist. For my audio-visual element, I will include a video of multiple scenes of environments as well as the video, and have the artist explain the intentions of the song. I will use a colour scheme that resembles the palette used commonly in the music video/audio visual piece. My website will be simple to use and I will include an interview that will involve an uncut audio recording of the artist answering a question, for the purpose of showing the artist in his most authentic and raw state., I will also include a blog, just like many other websites did.

How do you intend to link your media products to demonstrate your knowledge and understanding of the digitally convergent nature of your media production?

My products will portray my music artist as someone who appreciates other art forms, particularly through the music video which will use cinematic influence. I will also attempt to portray the artist as a relatable figure for the audience, with the music video presenting the artist going through emotions that are very typical for the 16-25 age demographic. The website will also promote the music video, as well as the artists other music, with a hyperlink on the front page, and multiple pictures and texts referring to the artist's music, showing him as an aspirational figure
